I would like to welcome our newest addition to the Bob Nelson Team, Kelly Putz.  She has joined us to help market current listings, develop our advertising and work with buyers.  Kelly is the only one on the team licensed in all three of the DC Metro areas.  With her assistance, the Bob Nelson Team will be able to home buying/selling needs wherever they may be.

Kelly’s Bio:

I am a transplant from Elvis’s birthplace, Tupelo, Mississippi, but I have always been fascinated with the DC area ever since I first visited on a school trip in grade school. I finally made the move here in 2000 and fell in love.

I have been a professional photographer since 1989, graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1993.  I worked as a photojournalist and editor for several Mississippi newspapers and the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, before moving to DC to work on Capitol Hill. There I worked as database manager and photographer for the U.S. Senate Photographic Studio, working with all 100 Senate offices, the Sergeant at Arms and Secretary of the Senate. In 2008, I made a move to the U.S. House Committee on Energy & Commerce as their official committee photographer and web manager under Chairman John Dingell. Through my photography I developed an intimate relationship with the details of the city, researching the layout and neighborhoods of this history-filled metropolis and all its surrounding areas.

In 2005 I began working in the real estate field as an assistant to Realtor®, and in 2009 I finally jumped in, feet-first, when I became a licensed Realtor® in DC, Maryland and Virginia and I left Capitol Hill. I still maintain my Hill contacts, though, and my husband also works for the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

I made the decision to become licensed in all areas of Metro DC because I did not want to ever have to say, “No, I can’t help you,” to anyone looking for a home. There are so many differing and varying opportunities for home purchases in all three areas that I have worked with every level of home buying, from a $35,000 condo to multi-million dollar properties and have done sales everywhere stretching from Stafford County, Virginia, to Frederick County, Maryland. I get asked a lot, “Don’t you mind driving so far?” Well, growing up in Mississippi where everything is so spread out, you just get used to driving long distances to get to places. So, a 90 mile drive, one-way, is nothing to me!

I specialize in First-Time Homebuyers, and teach free seminars to educate both those who are buying for the first time, as well as update those who have been out of the market for a long time. My degrees and my work in journalism, design and politics have given me an eye for detail that I use to my client’s benefit in helping to stage homes and prepare them for sale.  I also have a strong determination to advocate for my clients at the bargaining table.

Being a country girl at heart, I live in the village of Knoxville, MD at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers with my husband Scott and our little girls, Cameron and Shelby. But, still drawn to the excitement of our nation’s capitol, I happily commute to all areas of Metro DC, as well as the counties of Prince Georges, Montgomery, Howard, Frederick, Fairfax, Loudoun, Stafford and Prince William for my clients. Military Appreciation Mondays

Supports

Operation One Voice

America’s Special Forces are some of the finest in our military. Their work is highly classified and, due to the inherent risks in their duties, they suffer casualty rates more than 4 times higher than those of the conventional forces outside of Iraq. In many cases, these casualties involve young people who are beginning their careers. These brave soldiers leave behind families who often have no resources to provide a surviving child with a college education. Operation One Voice strives to relieve military families of such a burden.

Please join us on September 26th for this month’s Military Appreciation Mondays dinner, where we will be hosting the the group “Operation One Voice”. The organization was established by Duluth, Georgia police and firefighters to provide support to the families and children of injured and fallen Special Forces men and women. You can click on the link Operation One Voice to learn how this group supports the families of the injured and the fallen.

Please be sure to make a reservation sooner rather than later with the Old Brogue. As those who attended last month’s dinner found, due to overflow we had about 15 people ended up sitting on the back porch. Just call (703) 759-3309 and let them know if you would like to attend the 5:30 or the 7:30 seating.

For those of you unfamiliar with how MAM works, you simply come out and enjoy a great dinner at the Old Brogue in Great Falls. My co-sponsors and I will each make a 10% match of your dinner tab. For last month’s dinner in support of the Navy SEAL Foundation we had a total of 22 co-sponsors step forward, resulting in a match of 220 percent. Please let us know if you might be willing to step forward and volunteer to be a co-sponsor for this month.

We will also have door prize drawings as always, and we certainly welcome any items you might like to donate for the drawing.

I can assure you that this evening and the money we are able to raise will mean a great deal to the Special Forces families. We would love to see a room full of faces who recognize the sacrifices our nation’s TRUE HEROES are asked to make each and every day. Please come join us in sending the message that we truly care.

Of course feel free to drop me an e-mail or give a call if you can’t make it out for dinner, but would like to make a donation.

We hope to see you all on the 26th!

Nancy and I would like to thank everyone who came out in support of the Military Appreciation Mondays’ dinner for the Navy SEAL Foundation. This was our best attended event to date with 132 of you joining us for dinner. A best total amount was raised as well. Through your support and contributions, we will be sending somewhere between $6,000 – $6,500 to the foundation. I particularly want to thank those of you who signed on as co-sponsors for this dinner.

Many of you had an opportunity to meet Will Thomas.  If not, he did a fundraiser over Labor Day weekend in support of the SEAL Foundation.  Will is a twelve year old in Mclean who decided to shoot baskets as a special way to raise money for the SEAL Foundation. He had an amazing response, for for people to pledge one penny per basket. It seems that will exceeded his goal of shooting 17,000 baskets. If anyone is interested in showing your support to the Navy SEAL Foundation please contact Will or myself.

We look forward to seeing you this month on September 26th.
