Last week’s Charity Tuesdays event was really quite successful in spite of all the rain we had. While attendance was lighter than the past several months, we still managed to raise a little over $2,500 for the Yellow Ribbon Fund. Thanks to all of you who did manage to brave the weather. We had a couple of unexpected, but certainly welcome guests. Barbara Comstock (who won last week’s election for Virginia delegate) had come with her family. We also had Angie Goff from WUSA Channel 9 come by for the first seating. Angie did a very nice piece regarding the event during the morning news on her blog “Oh My Goff”. Yellow Ribbon Fund Executive Director Mark Robbins provided a nice overview of the work that the organization has been doing for both the vets and their caregivers. Sylvia (the wife of one of our nation’s True Heroes) commented on how much she appreciated what they have done for her and the family. Please be sure to click on the above link to Yellow Ribbon Fund to read about the many things these people have been doing. I hope you all join me in wishing the best for Jason who was heading out to Hawaii for surgery. If you are reading this Jason, please know that we all appreciate your service to this great nation of ours and our hearts are with you.
Michele Stork also provided a quick overview of the next event’s beneficiary organization, “Thanks USA“. ThanksUSA is a non-partisan, charitable effort to mobilize Americans of all ages to “thank” the men and women of the United States armed forces. We’re doing that by providing college, technical and vocational school scholarships for their children and spouses. The organization emanated from the desire of two sisters Rachel (10) and Kelsi (8) to help the families of military troops. Again, click on the above link to learn more about this grassroots organization. The next event will take place on January 26, 2010. I know its a long way off, but please keep it in mind.
