Military Appreciation Mondays Supports Yellow Ribbon fund.
-‐ Come join us at The Old Brogue in Great Falls on Monday January 30th for this month’s MAM event to help raise funds and awareness for the Yellow Ribbon Fund. All you have to do is show up and eat. Bob Nelson and his cosponsors will each donate a 10 percent match of whatever you spend on dinner. In November, 220% of the receipts were donated to the group Stop Soldier Suicide.
About the Yellow Ribbon Fund.
–The Yellow Ribbon Fund was created in 2005 to assist our injured service members and their families while they recuperate at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Their mission began when the father of an injured Marine introduced two of our volunteers to staff at Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval and they told us what needs were not met by other donors.
–In five years, contributions made through the Yellow Ribbon Fund have provided the following for injured service members and their families: over 1,100 free rental cars spanning 49,000 free rental car days; over 16,000 free taxi rides; over 7,300 free hotel room nights; and 46 families have had use of YRF’s four apartments for almost 6,000 nights; and hundreds of free tickets to sporting games, concerts and plays, and hundreds of lunches, dinners, golf games, duck and goose hunts, fishing trips, and other activities.
Be sure to make reservations for either the 5:30 or 7:30 seating by calling:
The Old Brogue at (703) 759-‐3309 760C Walker Rd., Great Falls VA
Please join us and help honor and support those who have given so much for our country.
How Can I help donate?
- -‐ The best way is to make a reservation and come eat some great food!! Bob and his co-sponsors will each make a 10 percent match of whatever you spend.
- -‐ Purchase door prize entries. -‐ We also accept donations either by mail or during the dinner. Make all checks out to Yellow Ribbon Fund.
- If sending by mail, send to: Bob Nelson; C/O Keller Williams Realty; 774A Walker Rd., Great Falls, Va. 22066.
How can I become a co-‐sponsor?
Co-‐Sponsors generally have been matching 10% of all receipts for the evening. All sponsors are recognized during the event. Call or email Bob if you are interested in becoming a sponsor for this month’s event.

Our Military Kids
Christmas Gift Wish List
WE DID IT!!
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED OUT
HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS
The following came in one of the emails we received from a military family responding to our call for their family wish list: Hello, as I sit here crying and wondering how I’m gonna Pay my bills, I get this email. All I can say is Thank you!!!!!!
Once again Santa and I are teaming up with Our Military Kids in an attempt to bring some extra holiday cheer to children of our injured and fallen service members and their families. We’ve compiled a Christmas Gift Wish List for 40 families of these SUPERHEROES. I’m hoping everyone will check out this list and consider purchasing one item, serving as Santa for an individual child or even sponsoring an entire family. The latter is a great option for a company or office to consider.
The list below will be posted until Christmas and will be updated over the next few weeks. Please follow our progress at my Website: www.bobnelsonteam.com and give me a call or drop an e-mail to: Santa@bobnelsonteam.com to let him know how you would like to brighten a family’s Christmas day. Once you have done so, we will give you the contact info for the family to contact them and then send your gift(s) directly to the family. I would also encourage you to visit www.Our Military Kids.org to learn more about this wonderful grassroots organization that does so much all year long for the kids.
Last year’s overwhelming response helped not only bring gifts to nearly 100 kids, but several of you stepped up and bought Christmas dinners for some of the families. Hopefully we can complete the following list quickly and add additional families
2011 CHRISTMAS WISH LIST
40 WOUNDED

Family names will be in green until such time as the wish list items have been accounted for.
I have moved all the fully adopted families towards the bottom. Santa still needs help with those families whose names are in GREEN.

Stop Soldier Suicide
According to a congressional finding, the U.S. Military has lost more servicemen and women to suicide than to hostile fire during the past two years. Stop Soldier Suicide (SSS) is a not-for-profit organization aimed at combating this growing suicide epidemic in the US Military. The organization raises civilian awareness of the trend, in addition to other interrelated veteran issues leading to suicide. SSS aids service members in the active, reserve, and National Guard components as well as veterans of all branches of military service. SSS is the first national, civilian not-for-profit organization dedicated to preventing soldier suicide.
One of the co-founders is former Great Falls citizen and graduate of Langley High School, Nick Black (Vice President and Chief Operations Officer). Nick served as a Company and Battalion Fire Support Officer for 1-503 IN (ABN), 173rd ABCT from 2006-2011. Nick deployed for 15 months to Operation Enduring Freedom VIII (OEF) and then 12 months to OEF X. During his second deployment to OEF, Nick was responsible for all fires and effects as well as the 2010 Wardak District elections. Nick is a graduate of the U.S. Army Airborne and Ranger schools. He is currently pursuing an MBA at UNC Kenan-Flagler school of business. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a BA in Political Science
If you are planning on attending the November 28th dinner, please be sure to make a reservation beginning on November 21st with the Old Brogue. As those who attended have attended previous dinners found, due to overflow we had to seat people on the back porch. Just call (703) 759-3309 and let them know if you would like to attend the 5:30 or the 7:30 seating.
For those of you unfamiliar with how MAM works, you simply come out and enjoy a great dinner at the Old Brogue in Great Falls. My co-sponsors and I will each make a 10% match of your dinner tab. For last month’s dinner in support of the Navy SEAL Foundation we had a total of 22 co-sponsors step forward, resulting in a match of 220 percent. Please let us know if you might be willing to step forward and volunteer to be a co-sponsor for this month.
We will also have door prize drawings as always, and we certainly welcome any items you might like to donate for the drawing.
I would like to welcome our newest addition to the Bob Nelson Team, Kelly Putz. She has joined us to help market current listings, develop our advertising and work with buyers. Kelly is the only one on the team licensed in all three of the DC Metro areas. With her assistance, the Bob Nelson Team will be able to home buying/selling needs wherever they may be.
Kelly’s Bio:
I am a transplant from Elvis’s birthplace, Tupelo, Mississippi, but I have always been fascinated with the DC area ever since I first visited on a school trip in grade school. I finally made the move here in 2000 and fell in love.
I have been a professional photographer since 1989, graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1993. I worked as a photojournalist and editor for several Mississippi newspapers and the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, before moving to DC to work on Capitol Hill. There I worked as database manager and photographer for the U.S. Senate Photographic Studio, working with all 100 Senate offices, the Sergeant at Arms and Secretary of the Senate. In 2008, I made a move to the U.S. House Committee on Energy & Commerce as their official committee photographer and web manager under Chairman John Dingell. Through my photography I developed an intimate relationship with the details of the city, researching the layout and neighborhoods of this history-filled metropolis and all its surrounding areas.
In 2005 I began working in the real estate field as an assistant to Realtor®, and in 2009 I finally jumped in, feet-first, when I became a licensed Realtor® in DC, Maryland and Virginia and I left Capitol Hill. I still maintain my Hill contacts, though, and my husband also works for the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
I made the decision to become licensed in all areas of Metro DC because I did not want to ever have to say, “No, I can’t help you,” to anyone looking for a home. There are so many differing and varying opportunities for home purchases in all three areas that I have worked with every level of home buying, from a $35,000 condo to multi-million dollar properties and have done sales everywhere stretching from Stafford County, Virginia, to Frederick County, Maryland. I get asked a lot, “Don’t you mind driving so far?” Well, growing up in Mississippi where everything is so spread out, you just get used to driving long distances to get to places. So, a 90 mile drive, one-way, is nothing to me!
I specialize in First-Time Homebuyers, and teach free seminars to educate both those who are buying for the first time, as well as update those who have been out of the market for a long time. My degrees and my work in journalism, design and politics have given me an eye for detail that I use to my client’s benefit in helping to stage homes and prepare them for sale. I also have a strong determination to advocate for my clients at the bargaining table.
Being a country girl at heart, I live in the village of Knoxville, MD at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers with my husband Scott and our little girls, Cameron and Shelby. But, still drawn to the excitement of our nation’s capitol, I happily commute to all areas of Metro DC, as well as the counties of Prince Georges, Montgomery, Howard, Frederick, Fairfax, Loudoun, Stafford and Prince William for my clients. Operation One Voice
America’s Special Forces are some of the finest in our military. Their work is highly classified and, due to the inherent risks in their duties, they suffer casualty rates more than 4 times higher than those of the conventional forces outside of Iraq. In many cases, these casualties involve young people who are beginning their careers. These brave soldiers leave behind families who often have no resources to provide a surviving child with a college education. Operation One Voice strives to relieve military families of such a burden.
Please join us on September 26th for this month’s Military Appreciation Mondays dinner, where we will be hosting the the group “Operation One Voice”. The organization was established by Duluth, Georgia police and firefighters to provide support to the families and children of injured and fallen Special Forces men and women. You can click on the link Operation One Voice to learn how this group supports the families of the injured and the fallen.
Please be sure to make a reservation sooner rather than later with the Old Brogue. As those who attended last month’s dinner found, due to overflow we had about 15 people ended up sitting on the back porch. Just call (703) 759-3309 and let them know if you would like to attend the 5:30 or the 7:30 seating.

I can assure you that this evening and the money we are able to raise will mean a great deal to the Special Forces families. We would love to see a room full of faces who recognize the sacrifices our nation’s TRUE HEROES are asked to make each and every day. Please come join us in sending the message that we truly care.
Of course feel free to drop me an e-mail or give a call if you can’t make it out for dinner, but would like to make a donation.
We hope to see you all on the 26th!

Nancy and I would like to thank everyone who came out in support of the Military Appreciation Mondays’ dinner for the Navy SEAL Foundation. This was our best attended event to date with 132 of you joining us for dinner. A best total amount was raised as well. Through your support and contributions, we will be sending somewhere between $6,000 – $6,500 to the foundation. I particularly want to thank those of you who signed on as co-sponsors for this dinner.
Many of you had an opportunity to meet Will Thomas. If not, he did a fundraiser over Labor Day weekend in support of the SEAL Foundation. Will is a twelve year old in Mclean who decided to shoot baskets as a special way to raise money for the SEAL Foundation. He had an amazing response, for for people to pledge one penny per basket. It seems that will exceeded his goal of shooting 17,000 baskets. If anyone is interested in showing your support to the Navy SEAL Foundation please contact Will or myself.
We look forward to seeing you this month on September 26th.
